How often should a mattress be steam cleaned?
For most households, once every 6 to 12 months keeps a mattress fresh. Homes with allergies, pets, kids, or anyone recovering from illness do better on a 4 to 6 month schedule.
Hot steam handles what vacuuming can't: dust mite waste, sweat salts, body oils and the odor-causing bacteria living in the top layers of foam. No detergent residue is left behind, so nothing stays in the fibers to attract new dirt.
Between visits, strip and wash bedding weekly in hot water, vacuum the mattress surface monthly with an upholstery tool, and rotate it so wear stays even.
